The reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrators that attacked a 90-year-old senior has increased to $30,000. After seeing reports of the attack in the last few weeks, actor Daniel Wu has pledged an additional $15,000 to match the $15,000 reward fund established by the board and friends of Homecrest Community Services (HCS) and musician MC Jin. “I was appalled when I saw the news that a 90-year-old grandmother was struck and set on fire in a racially motivated attack,” said Wu. “This attack must be classified as a hate crime and be treated that way by the police department as they continue to investigate. “We all need to stand up against hateful actions like this and bring the perpetrators to justice,” he added. “That’s why I’m offering an additional $15,000 reward to anyone with information that leads to the arrest and conviction of these individuals.”HCS, which provides services to seniors and immigrants mostly in south Brooklyn, first found out about the attack through community members. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, HCS was a key distributor of meals to seniors, and created specialized meals for Asian seniors. The non-profit organization launched a petition and reward following the attack to shine light on the increase in anti-Asian bias crimes. “As we continue to work with law enforcement on investigating this crime and classifying it as a hate crime, it is encouraging to see support for our efforts,” said Don Lee, board chair of Homecrest Community Services. “We thank Daniel Wu for his support and generous donation. We are hopeful that this increase to the reward will encourage more people to come forward with information on those behind this attack.” “The only way we can instill change is to work together. Keep raising awareness,” said MC Jin. “Keep using your voices. We will be heard.” Sign the petition to #EndAsianHateCrimes in the bio.

I have been trying hard not to post anything negative because there is enough negativity out there these days but these punk ass cowards went too far. How can you feel like a man attacking an 89 year old woman?? How sad is it that the woman didn’t want to report this right away? Enough is enough. These cowards need to be caught. I know there are some incredible internet sleuths out there. Do your work. LetMs catch these guys. I see @chinamac is organizing a gathering this weekend. Check his page for details if you are in NYC and want to participate! #Repost @nextshark with @make_repost ・・・ [video from ABC7 New York] An 89-year-old Chinese American woman was set on fire in New York earlier this month. The incident, which caught two male suspects on camera, occurred near 16th Ave. and 77th St. in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn around 6:45 p.m. on July 14. Surveillance video shows the suspects walking in the area with their faces covered. They allegedly approached the victim, who just stepped out of her home. One of the men allegedly slapped the victim on the face first. When she moved away, they set the back of her shirt on fire. The victim rubbed her back against a wall as soon as she realized she was in flames. Fortunately, she did not suffer serious injuries and the suspects did not try to steal her wallet or her phone. She did not disclose the incident to her family until the next day, since she did not want them to worry. A neighbor who witnessed the attack later checked on the victim and learned that she did not speak much English. “I just saw these two kids push her for nothing. She was looking in the garden,” Maria Castellano told CBS 2. “No reason at all. I mean, she didn’t do nothing. Why are you pushing the poor woman?” Police are still trying to figure out the suspects’ motive for the attack. Board members of the victim’s local community, the Homecrest Bensonhurst Neighborhood Senior Center, announced a $10,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest. “There are a lot of other people who live in this neighborhood but they purposely picked — two individuals purposely picked on an Asian woman, Asian senior to commit this heinous crime. There’s
